Derek's poems 'A History according to Dog' and 'Norfolk, 21st August 1968' were shortlisted for the Arts Richmond Roger McGough prize 2025.
The poem 'Norfolk, 21st August 1968' was highly commended in the Edward Thomas Fellowship Prize 2025.
Derek's poem 'Hiromi Uehara, Jazz Pianist' was included in the Poetry Worth Hearing podcast number 29.
His poem 'How to Conduct a War' was included in the Poetry Worth Hearing podcast number 30
The poem 'the best song of all time ...' was commended in the Yaffle's Nest Prize 2025.
